Share with fellow dog lovers!
As dog lovers, together we embrace a number of pet holidays and observances that take place in April, ranging from serious price points like World Lost Animals Day (takes place on April 4th every year) and National Missing Dog Awareness Day (falls on April 23rd) with fun developments like Bulldogs is a beautiful day (April 21) and National Day of Indulgent Small Dogs (April 27). On April 10, we were reminded to try to make time for a few more cuddles with our canine friends in celebration of National Hug Your Dog Day!

Hug or not hug
Although as pet parents we may want to hug a large bear to show our dogs how much we care, studies have shown that canines can actually feel uncomfortable when surrounded by someone.
Since even the most loving hug can make a dog feel trapped, dog devotees should try to read Rover’s reaction (e.g. does his body tense up when held or does he looking at you are panicking “whale eyes”?) To see if the situation is stressful for their four-legged friend.
As an alternative to a hug, dog lovers can choose another way to show their affection for Fido. Why not comfort your child with a simple shoulder or belly rub?
Give a virtual hug
Along with giving extra attention to your wagging friends on National Dog Hug Day, remember that you can also give a “virtual hug” to a dog in need by volunteering. staff at your local shelter, foster an animal shelter, or by donating to an animal shelter or rescue!
