Police say mother of two Katie Kenyon died of head injuries when they confirmed a body discovered in the woods was hers.
33 years old from Padiham, Burnley, found on friday The Lancashire Constabulary said it followed “extensive searches” of the Forest of Bowland, and has now been officially identified.
She was last seen around 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 22.
“A post-mortem examination by the Home Office was conducted yesterday and the cause of death was given as a head wound,” the force added in a statement Sunday.
“Our thoughts remain with Katie’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. The family continues to be supported by our specially trained officers.”
Andrew Burfield, 50, appeared at Preston Crown Court following a video link from HMP Preston on Friday, charged with the murder of Ms Kenyon.
Burfield, from Burnley, spoke only to confirm his identity during the seven-minute hearing.
He has been remanded in custody and a trial date has been set for November 14.
