Some have become frustrated with Keith Thurman’s career arc.
At one point, after victories over Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia, the Florida-born was considered the best 147-pound athlete in the world. However, after a long period of inactivity, Thurman now finds himself trying to get back on the heavy ladder.
During his time on the sidelines, Thurman heard his opponents loud and clear. Although he wishes the injury didn’t happen while he was at the peak of his game, if the 33-year-old former champion abandons his current comeback and hangs up his gloves for good, he will. look back on his career and smile.
“I’ve achieved a lot,” Thurman said in the Thurman vs. Barrios. “If I were fulfilled today, I have a lot to be proud of.”
While Thurman enjoys reminiscing about what he has accomplished in the past, he hopes to add even more to his memory bank.
Just a few more days, on February 5, at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Thurman will end his nearly three-year hiatus when he takes on former 140-pound WBA “Regular” champion Mario Barrios.
As the former united player continues to complete a long and grueling training camp, he believes that with his current form, he will regain his top spot to lead the welterweight rankings.
“Thurman is 100% back, back to the heavyweight rule I was. They know that this is the Thurman they fell in love with for the first time.”
Although Thurman has learned to accept the good, the bad, and the ugly in relation to his career, he still becomes angry when he discusses his only flaw.
After a decisive majority victory over fringe candidate Josesito Lopez in January 2019, Thurman successfully wiped the rust off the ring after another long layoff. Six months later, Thurman managed to get the most notable win of his career against former eighth world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Despite Thurman’s confidence, he was sent off deck in the opening bracket and suffered the first defeat of his career. Since then, Thurman has had to come to terms with his current record having been sullen. However, the former player unitedly refused to relive another painful defeat.
“I lost once, we won’t lose again.”
