What to wear for a Materntiy photo session
It’s not always easy for expecting moms to figure out what to wear for their maternity photo shoot. What she wears is a very important part of the maternity shoot and most importantly she has to be comfortable… with a touch of style of course! One thing to note is that for her it is also advisable to dress simply. The main focus should be on her, her radiant look, and her belly. Here are a few tips to help you have the perfect shoot!
1. A solid color tank
A solid shirt works great for her to show off the figure of her pregnant belly. This always looks great with a tight skirt or jeans.
2. Long skirt or skirt that hugs the belly
Long skirt or tight skirt – to flatter her figure again. Make sure the skirt and top are not too loose as it can make her look bigger. Pregnant women tend to feel heavier and this can add to extra pounds if it doesn’t fit properly.
3. A great color to add dimension and life to photos
I recommend staying away from prints or patterns as they can take away the main subject. I want to ask what their favorite color is and what color matches their skin tone. Usually, most women have a favorite color to wear so that’s always a perfect choice! This shirt fits her figure very well and the belt above her belly will keep it in place.
4. If she wants to show off her belly, then a tank top rolled up above her belly or a headband is perfect.
Not everyone wants to show off their abs, but usually, at the end of a workout, I recommend doing just one or two. I let them know that if they don’t like it, no problem. But, they almost always really like it and order those particular shots.
5. Many times, customers will think about what they want to wear
If it works, go with it. I always suggest bringing a few options. Sometimes just adding a piece of jewelry or a simple stand can really change the look of a photo.
Some of my favorite sessions are the maternity shoot. You can feel their excitement mixed with a bit of anxiety. Just remember to keep the styling simple so her excitement really shines through in the photos! Have fun!
