The Caribbean island nation of Barbados becomes the newest republic in the world

During a handover ceremony at the island’s capital, Bridgetown, the Queen was officially removed from her position as head of state.
The Prince of Wales attended the ceremony as the Queen’s representative, but also as her successor as head of the Commonwealth.
