Pregnant Philadelphia woman fatally shot while unloading presents from baby’s bathroom
In a statement, the Philadelphia Police Department said the 32-year-old was shot around 8:35 p.m. at the 6200 block of Palmetta Street.
Police said officers took her to Einstein Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:06 p.m. and her unborn child died about 10 minutes later.
Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Coulter told KYW that the pregnant woman was carrying a bath present when she was shot.
“There was an officer a few blocks away who heard gunshots. When they got here, they discovered she had been shot multiple times,” Coulter said. “The person who did this couldn’t be more cowardly.”
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with Saturday night’s shooting and no weapons have been recovered, the department said in its statement.
“This news is heartbreaking and heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the loved ones of the victim during this painful time,” Kenney wrote.
Commenting to KYW on gun violence in the city, Coulter said more needs to be done.
“We’re doing everything we can, we have a record number of guns on the street but we’re always looking to do more,” she said. “We need everyone in the city including elected officials, the police and everyone living in every home in Philadelphia to be as angry as possible about this.”
