The woman was from the Xia Mainland, but authorities did not give any other details.
Family members of the deceased have been notified, according to the release, and the BC Coroners Service has been notified and is conducting its own investigation.
Search efforts continue, the statement said.
“The total number of unclaimed people and vehicles has not been confirmed, however, investigators have received reports of two people missing and believe there may be other misappropriated vehicles that have been lost in the area. slide”, Sergeant. There have been three incidents of cars being trapped in debris flows, trapping hundreds of people, said Jordan Turner, communications director for British Columbia’s Emergency Management.
According to Jonathan Gormick of Canada’s Task Force 1, a search and rescue team based in Vancouver, nearly 300 tourists were stranded in the area.
Canadian authorities across southern British Columbia were forced to post evacuation orders before the waters rose as flooding continued to ravage the greater Pacific Northwest.
According to the province’s emergency information website, 24 evacuation orders have been posted because of the flooding. Mayor Henry Braun, Abbotsford, British Columbia, said at a news conference Tuesday that residents of about 1,100 homes in his city had been ordered to evacuate because of the flooding.
Photos and videos posted online by authorities show widespread flooding across Abbotsford, which hugs the US-Canada border and is 30 kilometers southeast of Vancouver.
Some important infrastructure in the province has also been damaged by the floods. Princeton, British Columbia Mayor Spencer Coyne told CNN’s CBC news media partner that their entire town is without gas after a line broke during storms and floods. Breaking could endanger residents there as temperatures will drop below freezing over the next few nights.
The city of Merritt said Tuesday afternoon it was forced to shut down drinking water because flooding contaminated it.
“Water is not drinkable, even when boiled,” the city said on Twitter.
Penticton, British Columbia, reported on Twitter that storms and flooding knocked down the town’s phone lines.
Flood warnings have been issued for areas around the province’s Similkameen and Thompson rivers, meaning river levels have, or are imminent, exceeded their banks.
Large tracts of land surrounding the southern portion of the Fraser River have also been placed under flood conditions.
