2025 BYD Seal – adds roof-mounted lidar sensor, new exterior color, launches in China on August 8

In China, BYD has announced that it has updated its Seal electric sedan in 2025, with the update hitting the market on August 8. In a few images released by the automaker, the exterior modifications appear minor, with the inclusion of roof-mounted lidar sensors and a few exterior tweaks being the main changes, such as Car NewsChina report.

In addition to the addition of lidar sensors that enhance the performance of ADAS-related functions on the vehicle, the Seal 2025 also features a new light purple exterior paint and a red BYD logo on the rear trunk lid.

It will also simply remain as the Seal. Based on the automaker’s current naming convention for its domestic lineup, it was previously speculated that the Seal would add the 07 suffix, but the report states that the company has stated that the Seal will retain the name without any numerical additions, after gathering feedback from customers.

As before, the Seal will continue to be offered in three variants for the domestic market. The base Seal is powered by a 228-horsepower (170 kW) electric motor driving the rear wheels. Incidentally, this motor is more powerful than the 201-horsepower (150 kW) found on the current rear-wheel drive Dynamic Standard Range, which is not sold in Malay. The battery is still the 61.4 kWh Blade lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Elsewhere, the mid-engine Extended Range single-motor rear-wheel-drive version retains its 308 hp (230 kW) and 262 lb-ft (360 Nm) output and a larger battery, although CNC’s report indicates that the Seal 2025’s battery is an 80.64 kW unit, slightly less than the 82.5 kW unit found on the current ER.

The top-of-the-line version is still the Performance AWD, equipped with a dual-motor powertrain (215 hp/310 Nm front, 308 hp/360 Nm rear) producing 523 hp (390 kW) and 670 Nm of torque.
