2024 Toyota Vellfire Full Collection in Malaysia – 182 PS, 235 Nm 2.5L NA; RM438k, 100k cheaper than Alphard

This is the complete collection of the fourth generation Toyota Vellfirewas launched in Malaysia last October along with AlphardPriced at RM438,000 excluding insurance, this premium MPV comes in only one variant using a naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The engine in question is a 2AR-FE 2.5-litre inline-four with Dual VVT-i that produces 182 PS (180 hp or 134 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. Drive goes to the front wheels via a Super CVT-i transmission with seven virtual ratios in manual mode – top speed is 170 km/h and fuel consumption is claimed to be 9.1 l/100 km.

Now based on the GA-K version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the new Vellfire isn’t much larger than its predecessor, as it still needs to fit the automated parking system that’s standard in its home market of Japan. As such, it measures 5,005mm long, 1,850mm wide, 1,950mm tall, and retains the same 3,000mm wheelbase.

Visually, the Vellfire is distinguished from its (more expensive and turbocharged) sibling by a distinct front grille with horizontal chrome bars and large faux air intakes leading to the fog lights. The rear of the Vellfire also gets a specific taillight signature and a chrome chin for the lower apron.

Inside, both MPVs feature identical dashboard designs and seven-seat layouts, the former in a 2-2-3 configuration with executive seats in the second row as well as a bench in the third row that seems more suitable for two.

Standard exterior equipment for the Vellfire includes 19-inch alloy wheels (with 225/55 tyres), triple LED headlights, sequential turn signals, turn signals, daytime running lights, front and rear fog lights and a fixed panoramic sunroof.

The list continues with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 15-speaker JBL sound system, 64-color ambient lighting, keyless entry and start, roof-mounted sunshades and power windows, a power steering wheel, three-zone automatic climate control (with vents for the second and third rows), power sliding doors, a computer system, and front and rear dash cams.

Synthetic leather is used for the seats, which are electrically adjustable in the front with a memory function for the driver. The second-row executive seats are also electrically adjustable and feature heating and ventilation as well as side tables, but they are not as luxurious as the Alphard’s Executive Lounge seats, which have touch controls, massage functions and individual ottomans.

In terms of safety and driver assistance systems, the Vellfire is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense suite which includes features such as Pre-Collision System (with autonomous emergency braking), Lane Departure Warning, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist and Adaptive High Beam Assist. Other features include Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Parking Assist Brake, Tyre Pressure Monitor and the usual array of passive systems (ABS, VSC, traction control etc).
