Bradley moved up from 50th to fourth in the standings, with the top 30 players in the standings set to compete for the championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. However, each player was assigned starting strokes based on their standings, led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at -10. Scheffler is two strokes ahead of Xander Schauffele (-8), three ahead of Hideki Matsuyama (-7) and four ahead of Bradley (-6).
The latest 2024 Tour Championship odds show Scheffler listed as the favorite at +100 (risk $100 to win $100), while Schauffele is +220 and Matsuyama is +1200. Top Predictions for the 2024 Tour Golf Championship
One surprise: McIlroy, a four-time major champion and a top +1800 favorite, doesn’t crack the top five this week. McIlroy won the Tour Championship in 2016, 2019 and 2022, entering the tournament with odds ranging from 6-1 to 8-1 in all three years. However, he has only won one individual event this season, the Wells Fargo Championship three months ago.
McIlroy has struggled for consistent results since missing a pair of close calls on the road at the US Open, finishing outside the top 10 in three of his last four events. He missed the cut at the Open Championship and finished T68 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to open the playoffs. The model does not expect McIlroy to compete for the title this weekend, recommending bettors look elsewhere on the PGA odds board for value.
The model also took into account Schauffele’s position. Before this season, Schauffele’s career bests came when he won the 2017 Tour Championship and the 2020 Summer Olympics. The 30-year-old finally broke through at the majors this season, winning the PGA Championship and the Open Championship this summer.
He became the first player to win multiple majors in the same year since Brooks Koepka in 2018, and will now be aiming for his second career Tour Championship victory. Schauffele is second in the FedEx Cup standings, so he will start the tournament two strokes behind Scheffler.
