New generation MG 3 is still a much more expensive proposition than its predecessor, but the Chinese automaker has managed to close the gap.
The company has announced that it will return to preferential prices for the MG 3 model, but only applies to gasoline-powered models.
The Excite, previously priced at $23,990 before on-road costs, is now priced at $24,990 drive-away as part of a so-called “strategic pricing adjustment”.
The Essence has gone from $25,990 on-road to $26,990 drive-away.
The new national drive-away prices mean savings of between $706 and $1332 for MG 3 Excite buyers and between $726 and $1416 for Essence customers.
The hybrid models retain their prices of $27,990 and $28,990 (before on-road costs) for the Excite and Essence, respectively.
The price cut comes after deliveries have already begun, but MG says it will compensate buyers who have already taken delivery of their MG 3.

“Our customers come first and with the caveat that if a person has already taken delivery, they will be eligible for a discount in consideration of the new campaign.”
MG says it still has supplies of the upcoming MG 3 generation, priced from $18,990, with inventory to last. until the end of this year.
