Peugeot may be the star of Stellantis’ Malaysia Motor Show stand, but those venturing towards the back of the stand will also be treated to some left-field products from Citroën. But wait, didn’t this quintessential French brand sell its last car here? end of 2020?

Yes, but haven’t you heard? Stellantis Malaysia is ready to bring Citroën back to our shores as a “mainstream” brand (think of it as a rival to Toyota and Honda), and its presence here is a glimpse of things to come. To that end, the company is displaying two vehicles, the C3 Aircross and the Ami Buggy.

Citroën C3 Aircross

The C3 Aircross is a world away Little Tyke is Eurocentric was previously sold here. Now it has evolved into a seven-seater SUV in the style of Perodua Aruz and dear has gone Honda BR-V. It is built on the Smart Automotive Platform and designed for the Southeast Asian market, manufactured in India.

With dimensions of 4,323 mm long, 1,796 mm wide and 1,669 mm high, the C3 Aircross is much smaller than the Aruz (4,435 mm long) and especially the BR-V (new second generation model 4,490 mm long). has the shortest wheelbase of 2,671 mm. However, it’s wider than all of them, which should free up some shoulder room, especially in the back.

Power comes from a 1.2-liter PureTech turbocharged three-cylinder engine last seen in Peugeot 208, producing 110 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 205 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, the automatic being the clear choice for our market.

The special design of the C3 Aircross features split headlights with X-shaped daytime running lights, thick wheel arches, scalloped fender surfaces, C-shaped taillights and thick body-colored C-pillars. divided by a black strip; this defines the border of the optional two-tone color palette. Unlike the recently launched European model, this car still does not have the new Citroën badge with its oval outline.

The car you see here is locked up and heavily stained so we can’t show you the interior. However, you can expect to find a 7-inch digital instrument display, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an interesting interlocking design for the perforations. vent.

Unfortunately, the C3 Aircross is equipped with only two airbags and no driver assistance systems (not even automatic emergency braking). We can imagine that Stellantis will have to make some significant improvements to add these much-requested features – including a minimum of six airbags – to our market.

Citroën My Ami Buggy Concept

The other car on display is truly an odd one. This is the Ami Buggy, the off-road version of the Ami electric four-wheeled vehicle. Specifically, it’s the My Ami Buggy concept launched in late 2021, which comes with knobby ATV-style tires (wrapped on tiny 10-inch wheels), skid plates, extended wheel arches, and anti-slip bars on the front. before.

Other details specific to the concept include a protective head and taillight cover, a “cover” on the front windshield, a roof rack with front light bar and spare wheel, and the complete absence of any doors. any. Instead, there are tubular “guards” containing transparent rain shields that can be deployed in inclement weather. No, this is not road rules at all. The car is painted matte black with a bright yellow interior.

All these cute beach buggy design details come in an already cute package – the Ami is a small city vehicle measuring just 2,400mm long, 1,390mm wide and tall 1,520 mm, making it an absolute must for parking. It’s a little longer and a little wider in comparison Renault Twizy was sold here. That “car” (if you can call it that) has two people sitting side by side; The Citroën can fit two people side by side.

Those two will have a hard time getting anywhere quickly, as the Ami only draws 8 PS (6 kW, or half that of the Twizy) from a single motor, giving it its top speed only 45 km/h. A small 5.5 kWh battery can travel 70 km, with a full charge taking three hours from a 220-volt household outlet.

Of course, the Ami wasn’t really considered in the Malaysian market due to its lack of power, top speed, right-hand drive version (yes, even in the UK) and any safety features (including the Twizy ). The driver’s airbag makes a loud noise). But are you excited to see the Citroën brand return to Malaysia? Sound off in the comments section after the jump.
