2023 Subaru Crosstrek – The all-new XV gets a new name


The Subaru XV no more – long live the Subaru Crosstrek! The latest generation of Subaru’s Impreza soft-roader drops the XV badge and is now known as the Subaru Crosstrek globally.

The Subaru Crosstrek name is of course not new to the model, as it has been referred to as Crosstrek or XV with previous generation vehicles, but Subaru has now decided on Crosstrek as a unique name.

The new generation soft-roader version measures 4,480 mm long x 1,800 mm wide x 1,580 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.

A large vertical 11.6-inch touchscreen is the center of gravity in the interior of the new Crosstrek, although the dashboard in front of the driver continues to use analog gauges for the speedometer and RPM meter, with The only digital part is the small multi-information display in between them.

Along the vertical touchscreen are hardware buttons for AC temperature and volume, but we note that AC fan speed must now be controlled digitally. It’s something we often wish had hardware controls, but at least the volume is still a physical knob.

Subaru says the new Crosstrek features a new seat design with better pelvic support, which is said to prevent the vehicle’s swaying motion from transmitting to the head. In addition, the seat mounting structure has been changed, with the seat rails now being attached directly to the body of the vehicle instead of using brackets. Subaru says this increases connection stiffness and improves vibration damping while reducing seat shake.

Subaru only mentioned one engine option in its press release – the 2.0-liter e-Boxer, which is a plug-in hybrid model. Does it mean Crosstrek will only be available as a hybrid? Or will it continue to be available with a 2.0-liter conventionally aspirated model as pure as it was? sell like in Malaysia?

The 2.0-liter e-Boxer system places an electric motor in between the internal combustion engine and the Lineartronic CVT transmission. No specifications for system output have been provided for now. But if it is an evolution of the previous generation e-Boxer system, it will use a 48V battery. BTW pointed out, e-Boxer is not like XV plug-in hybridthey are two different hybrid systems.

On the active safety front, Subaru’s EyeSight system is now supplemented with a single wide-angle camera to work alongside the existing EyeSight stereo camera. Subaru says the wide-angle single camera enables better recognition of pedestrians and motorcycles to enable pre-collision braking in a variety of situations, such as intersections, thanks to a wider field of view.
