A new performance variant fills the growing range of electric crossover SUV offerings in the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2023 debuted on Sunday in Paris, France, followed by the AMG 2024 EQE SUV with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, Mercedes announced Sunday.
EQE SUV shares the same components as EQE . mid-size electric sedan, but with a length of 191.5 inches and a wheelbase of 119.3 inches, the EQE SUV is 5.1 inches shorter and has a wheelbase 3.6 inches shorter than its sedan counterpart. The five-seater is 10 inches shorter than the relevant one EQS three-row SUVand the AMG version sits a bit lower and its bumpers make it a bit longer.
Smaller proportions and lighter weight may not result in a larger range than the EQS SUV. Instead of the standard 108 kWh battery pack in the larger EQS SUV, the new EQE SUV uses a 90.6 kWh battery in the EQE sedan. The battery that powers the permanent magnet motor basically comes in four configurations.
A single 215 kWh engine drives the rear wheels in the base EQE 350+ class, making 288 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes estimates a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds in its lightest EQE SUV. Mercedes only revealed the weight of its heaviest model, the 5,930 lb EQE AMG SUV. The estimated range is also not disclosed, but the 550 km range on the WLTP Europe emissions test cycle equates to about 305 miles on the EPA scale.
Range will decrease as shoppers climb the pruning ladder. The EQE SUV 350 4Matic adds a front-wheel drive for all-wheel drive and boosts torque to 564 lb-ft with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds.
The EQE SUV 500 4Matic comes standard with all-wheel drive, but power from the 300-kw combined engine increases to 536 hp and 633 lb-ft of torque. The 500 4Matic accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, but the AMG EQE SUV 53 variant does what the AMG does.
Powered by two AMG-specific engines (Mercedes undisclosed) producing 617 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque, the EQE SUV AMG matches its specifications. AMG EQE sedan coming soon. The AMG Dynamic Plus package raises power to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time in 3.4 seconds.
Mercedes estimates the AMG model can recover a range of up to 100 miles in 15 minutes with DC fast charging. For other EQE SUV models that share the 400-volt architecture, a quick charge up to 170 kw will take 32 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV
A home or destination charging station that outputs 240 volts at 32 amps can fully charge the battery in 9.5 hours via the onboard 9.6 kw charger.
The first EQ Mercedes to use a standard heat pump, the EQE SUV recycles waste heat from the powertrain to heat the cabin instead of using batteries, and it also saves energy when pre-conditioning is powered by batteries.
The regenerative braking system has four levels selectable via paddle shifters; In our testing of other similarly equipped EQ models, it could stop when driving one pedal, but it also affects throttle feel, which takes some getting used to.
An optional air suspension with adaptive dampers comes with all-wheel drive models, adding an Offroad mode to Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual modes. Optional rear-wheel steering up to 10 degrees adds agility or stability, depending on speed. It is limited to 9.0 degrees on the AMG due to the wider track and larger available wheels.
Standard features include a 12.8-inch central touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity and charging, 64-color ambient lighting, upholstered seats synthetic leather, Burmester sound, satellite radio, panoramic sunroof and 19-inch wheels.
Options range from Mercedes’ Hyperscreen to an immersive Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos.
Pricing hasn’t been announced but the standard Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 350+ 2023 isn’t as well equipped as the base EQS SUV, which has a starting price in excess of $105,000. Pricing for the EQE sedan has also not been announced. Pricing is expected to be finalized before the early 2023 sale date for the 2023 EQE SUV. The AMG variants are expected to launch in the middle of this year.
