2023 LIV Golf Adelaide standings, scores: Talor Gooch against Cameron Smith, Patrick Reed to win

Shooting innings 62-62-73, Talor Gooch successfully beat the likes of Anirban Lahiri, Patrick Reed and Cameron Smith on their way to 19 under and won at LIV Golf Adelaide on Sunday. After setting not one but two goalscoring records in the first two days of circling The Grange in Adelaide, Australia, the American has faced many adversities in the round of 18 finals.

“I think golf is really hard,” says Gooch. “It’s hard to put the dates back together like I did and it’s even harder to do it three times in a row. I actually played well there today. I think the golf gods spoke. We don’t want this first win to be easy with you.”

Starting the final round with 20 under 20 and 10 strokes ahead of nearest opponent, Gooch’s first win on LIV Golf was almost certain. Off to a casual start with a birdie on his first six holes, former 4 Aces GC and current RangeGoats GC member hit a road bump as he finished in 7th place.

Consecutive bogeys in 7th and 8th place made Gooch think about something before the near disaster in 10th place in the form of a double donkey. While the 31-year-old is stuck on the opposite side, Lahiri and Reed are accusing the man from India of shortening the lead gap to just three.

Gooch said: “There were a couple of bad breakups here and there, so that made things interesting, but it was nice to push through the adversity and dig in after I scored a brace in position. 10th”. “It’s an issue that we’re going to dig in and do this or you’ll stumble in. It’s nice to dig in and get the job done.”

Birdies on the 11th and 13th put Gooch back in the driver’s seat and almost took his first win on LIV Golf. Having been a member of the circuit from the start, the former Oklahoma State standout has gone through the majority of close calls without tasting victory. While for the majority of LIV Golf Adelaide, this call-up seemed unlikely, the win for Gooch cemented his place as one of the tournament’s best players.

Unfortunately for Gooch and the rest of the RangeGoats, the individual winner was unable to put his team on the podium during the team section of the event. Instead, as they had done from the beginning, the 4 Aces won the team title — their first on international soil.

“I looked at the standings a little bit because I knew if all four of us played well, we would have a chance to win,” said captain Dustin Johnson. “Yeah, especially when we got through — as it neared the end, I definitely looked at the rankings a little bit or as much as I could just to see where we were standing, to see if they were do I need to make a few birdies, that’s what. But obviously it’s been a great week. All four played well. To get the first win outside of the US is great.”

Knocked out by less than 47 points, the defending champions from 2023 were able to beat Gooch’s RangeGoats by one stroke and South Africa’s Stinger GC by three.
