While Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz is only really small sell pickup trucks in the United States, other markets already have a lot truck. In Brazil, the latest will be 2023 Chevy Montana. And it’s such a sharp little thing that we can’t help but wonder if it could end up here somehow.
The press release reveals a bit about the mechanical details, but the Montana is based on the same platform as the Chevy Onix sedan and hatchback, and Chevy Tracker cross. Don’t get confused between follow for the old Suzuki-based SUV. The Montana is derived from the Chevy Tracker, albeit a bit similar in size and shape to the recently revealed 2024. traxit’s based on a different platform (Montana on GEM and Trax on VSS-F). Based on Chevy, truck developed by GM technical centers in South America, North America and Asia.
Developed based on Tracker, Montana should have MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion bar rear. There’s a single powertrain option: a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder that makes 133 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. And while the platform may be different from the Trax, that powertrain is roughly the same. Based on chevrolet of Brazil, Montana received a variety of structural reinforcements to handle the truck’s duties, and the payload appears to be almost half the weight of the truck. We would imagine that it would be somewhere around 1,500 pounds, assuming the truck weighs about 3,000 pounds, give or take a few hundred.
The truck is quite small. It is about a foot shorter than Maverick and Santa Claus. Chevy doesn’t give the length of the bed, but it looks pretty useful. Chevy is also offering a really nifty racking system. It consists of several panels that can be reconfigured to form a shelf over a bed or partition. They also have lots of little hooks and trays for extra organization. Hard tonneau covers are also available.
With the widespread popularity of Ford Maverickand even Ram looks at smaller trucksit’s hard to imagine Chevy at least not considering bringing something like a Montana to the United States, if not literally this truck.
