The PGA Tour heads north from San Diego to the Monterey Peninsula in California for the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. Welcoming some of the biggest names not only in golf but also in the entertainment world, competitors will feature celebrities like Jake Owen, Gareth Bale, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, etc.

With such a large number of people passing through, three golf courses will be used. Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hills and Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club will play host with Pebble Beach being featured twice including in the final round after cutting 54 holes.

Leading the match was world number 16 Jordan Spieth, who has dominated Pebble Beach throughout his career. Winning in 2017, the Texan may be best remembered for his iron hit just a few feet from the cliff on the eighth hole at this tournament a season ago. Ultimately losing to Tom Hoge, Spieth will seek exact revenge and continue his strong play at Pebble Beach.

Joining Spieth and Hoge are Europeans Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland and Seamus Power. Hovland has a history of his own at Pebble Beach, winning the US amateur championship at the venue in 2018. He will be hoping the good vibes continue; Despite winning victories around the world, Hovland remains undefeated on the PGA Tour as of November 2021.

  • Matt Fitzpatrick (10-1)
  • Jordan Spieth (11-1): Last time we met Spieth, he was busy going from first place to slip up at the Sony Open. He’s back in the game in a comfortable position as he’s played at Pebble Beach every season since 2013. During this time period, not only has he had a win to his name, but never before. missed opportunities and boasts five top 10 finishes, including a second in 2022 and T3 in 2021. Spieth remains a mystery and could easily win as much as he may have missed the opportunity, but given his history at the venue, you have to imagine that the first one could be on the card this week.
  • Viktor Hovland (12-1): This will only be Hovland’s second professional appearance at Pebble Beach (he completed the T38 in a single start in 2020). Back on the site of his biggest amateur win, the Norwegian is quietly playing some very consistent golf. Since The Open, where he played in the last group in the finals alongside Rory McIlroy, Hovland has hit it 12 times, not trailing T34 with four top 10 finishes and one win at the Hero World Challenge.
  • Seamus Power (16-1)
  • Maverick McNealy (18-1): Growing up playing in Pebble Beach, McNealy has always been worth considering in his backyard. Among the few best players on the PGA Tour who are still without a win, the Stanford product made it to the final list in 2021 when he finished second behind Daniel Berger. While he can wrestle from tee to green, McNealy makes up for it even more on the green. For the past six months, he’s ranked first in strokes achieved, second in scramble and third in birdie or better points among those in the field.
  • Tom Hoge (20-1): The defending champions limped to the finish line in 2021-22 but looked like his usual self in 2023. In his nine starts this season, Hoge has five top 15 finishes, including finishes. Impressive T3 result on the Champions League debut. In addition to considering the Ryder Cup, a successful defense of the title will be of great help in securing a surprise spot on Team USA for Rome. Hoge ranks first in strokes achieved on approach, second in distance from 100-125 yards and fifth in birdies or better over the past six months, so it’s certainly not out of the question.
  • Andrew Putnam (January 20)
  • Keith Mitchell (January 28)
  • Justin Rose (35-1): It’s been a quietly encouraging start to 2023 for the former world No. Winning a T26 spot at The American Express, Rose backed it up at Torrey Pines with a T18 effort. Looking to expand this quality in California, the Briton returns to Pebble Beach for the fifth time in his career. He finished T6 in the 2016 edition of this tournament and T3 at the 2019 US Open, demonstrating a level of comfort few people get on such an intimate property.
