2022 Kia Sorento GT-Line Hybrid from $66,750 – UPDATED


Forecast Kia Sorento Hybrid are currently being sold in Australia for significantly less than Toyota Kluger Hybrid.

Both front- and all-wheel drive versions of the Sorento GT-Line Hybrid (HEV) are offered in Australia, though as we reported before, the supply will be very limited at launch, only about 20 units per month. Outside of supply, the Sorento is the only vehicle sold in Australia to offer petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.

Pricing for 2022 Kia Sorento GT-Line Hybrid FWD will start at $66,750 before on-road costswhile 2022 Kia Sorento GT-Line Hybrid AWD upload stickers $69,750 before hitting the road. The first cars are expected to reach customers in the coming weeks.

UPDATE, 4/29/22 4:30pm: Kia Australia has officially announced the pricing and specification details of the new Sorento HEV, including local images. All previously reported details are in line with the official specifications.

The Sorento Hybrid represents a premium of nearly $4700 over the equivalent petrol and diesel V6 in FWD and AWD guise respectively.

For reference, the Toyota Kluger Hybrid is AWD only and charges $63,350 plus on-road tolls for the midsize GXL and $75,400 for the top-end Grande. Toyota charges about $2700 more for the Kluger AWD Hybrid than the equivalent Kluger AWD V6.

Kia Australia has previously said the Sorento Hybrid will only be offered in top-of-the-range GT-Line spec due to high global demand for electrified Sorento models – such as Australia offering the Sorento from the same Factory supply to Europe.

With that in mind, the standard equipment reflects much of the equipment of Sorento GT-Line Plug-in Hybridalthough the electrified models have a different wheel/tire package and some unique touches compared to the regular petrol and diesel versions.

The Sorento Hybrid uses the same petrol-electric powertrain as the more expensive Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, albeit with a smaller lithium battery and less powerful electric motor mounted between the petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission. .

One 132kW / 265Nm 1.6 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine team with a Electronic motor 44kW / 264Nm for system outputs 169kW and 350Nm. Lithium-ion polymer battery quote capacity is 1kWh.

For comparison, the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid’s electric motor delivers 67kW/304Nm, bringing system output to 195kW. The combined torque remains constant at 350Nm.

Combined fuel consumption is rated at 5.3L / 100km for Sorento Hybrid FWD and 5.8L / 100km for the Sorento Hybrid AWD – both are ADR 81/02 certified.

The smaller battery pack offers more luggage than the PHEV, although still a bit less than the V6 petrol and four-cylinder diesel versions.

The quoted boot capacity is 179L / 608L / 1996L in seven/five/two-seat configurations, down 8L on petrol and diesel models in two- and five-seat configurations, and 15L with the second and third row seats folded. It’s up 4L and 8L on PHEVs across those measurements, respectively.

Seven colors will be offered to match the broader Sorento line:

The Kia Sorento is the only car sold in Australia to offer petrol, diesel, parallel-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, although electrified versions are only available on the top-spec trim.

Kia Australia has previously indicated that hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains can filter down to the Sorento’s lower trim levels if supplied from the Korean factory.

The electric models are also the only petrol Sorentos in Australia to offer an all-wheel drive option, as the 3.5L V6 petrol engine available across the range is the exclusive front-wheel drive.

The arrival of the Sorento Hybrid coincides with a wide-ranging price increase on current gasoline and diesel models effective March 1, with increases ranging from $800 to $1000. See the price list below for more.
