12 possible reasons why your photos are too soft

There’s nothing more frustrating than taking an image that you’re particularly proud of or excited about, only to examine the back of the camera and realize it’s not sharp and the moment has passed. If you’re frustrated with soft photos, watch this great video tutorial that discusses 12 possible reasons your photos are soft and how to fix them and get the sharp images you expect.

Coming to you from Katelyn James, this great video tutorial discusses 12 reasons why your images might be soft. Using a shutter speed that is too slow is something I often see, even from experienced photographers, often trying to keep the ISO as low as possible. Of course, a lower ISO usually means better image quality, but that often leads us to try to use a slower shutter speed than we really should. A sharp but noise-free photo is always preferred over a clear but blurry photo. You can always run noise reduction in posts, but if the photo is blurry due to subject movement or camera shake, there’s really not much you can do to restore it. Don’t be afraid to increase that ISO when necessary! Check out the video above for a full rundown from James.
