YouTube appoints Mary Ellen Coe as Chief Sales Officer after Robert Kyncl .’s departure

On Monday, longtime YouTube chief executive Robert Kyncl announced that he was leaving the dominant social video platform in the US after more than 12 years at the company.

Google Global President of Customer Solutions Mary Ellen Coe will take on the role of Chief Business Officer at YouTube starting in early October, the company confirmed. Kyncl will stay on YouTube temporarily to assist with the transition.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki thanks Kyncl on Twitter on Monday.

“We owe a lot to our growth and impact on your leadership,” Wojcicki writes. I’m excited to welcome Mary Ellen Coe as YT’s new CBO. Mary Ellen’s career at Google has been dedicated to helping partners be more successful, and I know she will do the same for creators, partners, and users. @YouTube! “

Kyncl joined Google’s video platform after nearly eight years as Netflix’s vice president of content in the third quarter of 2010.

Variety reports that Wojcicki sent an internal memo to YouTube employees on Monday noting that under his leadership, “YouTube has forged new relationships and partnerships in music, traditional media and technology”, and paid “more than US$30 billion to creators, artists and media companies over the past 3 years.”

Kyncl’s experience at Netflix and YouTube has made him Source access for legacy media executivesincluding former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who has transformed his business to focus on direct-to-consumer streaming services.

Upcoming CBO Mary Ellen Coe has been Google’s president of global customer solutions since early 2017 and has been with Google since 2012. Before working with the search giant, she was a partner at McKinsey.

She also served on the boards of multinational healthcare company Merck and grocery business Whole Foods Markets before being acquired by Amazon.
