Apple recently iPhone launch Special focus on emergency and safety features. While Emergency SOS via satellite made waves in the world’s superior communications technology, Detect the problem – ported over from Apple Watch – made for a more practical and convenient user feature.
By monitoring changes in air pressure, speed, motion and sound, iPhone 14″ will automatically connect you to your local dispatcher if a car accident is detected. It’s a nifty feature that can really save lives.
Luckily, you don’t have to buy the latest iPhone for peace of mind. If you own a Google Pixels, auto accident detection may be ready for you. It’s free to use and useful when you need it most. Here’s how to set it up.

How to set up auto accident detection on Google Pixel
Before you start digging into your phone settings, make sure you have a compatible Google Pixel, as auto crash detection isn’t available on all models. Luckily, the list of supported devices stretches a lot, and even your four-year-old Pixel should make the cut. Here is the list:

In the unfortunate event of a car accident, you’ll want to make sure your Pixel has a SIM card inserted so it can contact emergency services. An eSIM plan should also work.
If you are not sure if you have inserted a SIM card, you can go to your phone settings> About phone > and then find your carrier by SIM Status. Or, open the physical SIM card tray with the eject tool and see if the card is inserted.
Your Google Pixel must have the Safety app downloaded. If not, go to the Play store, search for “Personal Safety” and hit install.
If this is your first time setting up the Safety app, it prompts you to link the service to your Google account, add emergency contacts (optional) and medical information, and allows Pixel access to your location.
To enable Car Crash Detection, tap the settings gear in the top left corner > then Car accident detection Below Detect and warn > and turn it on.
Once you confirm activation, your Pixel will show a warning that it will use your device’s location, motion sensors, and ambient sound to detect car crashes – even if you don’t open the app. Use Safety.
If you’re fine with passive tracking, tap OK and allow the app to access your physical activity and record audio.
To familiarize yourself with the car crash detection protocol, press Try a demo on the Safety app features page, then Begin. Keep in mind that this is just a simulation of how the Pixel would behave in the event of a car accident.
When your Pixel starts to sound and vibrate to a beacon-like beat, you’ll be prompted to swipe I’m fine or Or call 911. There will also be a 60-second countdown that automatically activates the second option if you’re unconscious and unable to interact with your Pixel.

If you choose to call 911, your location, along with its coordinates, will be shared with a local dispatcher.

Does car crash detection always work?
While your Pixel will always monitor changes to the environment, successful and accurate crash detection is not guaranteed. For example, high-impact activities like riding a roller coaster may be enough to activate the safety feature.
Can I use auto crash detection without mobile data?
Unfortunately, you can’t use auto accident detection without dialing into the mobile network. In some cases, if your cellular connection is too weak, your Pixel device may not even have enough power to reach emergency services.
