Yarde will fight winner Beterbiev-Smith, says Bob Arum
Anthony Yarde will be in New York this week for Saturday’s world lightweight title fight between WBC and IBF champion Artur Beterbiev and WBO champion Joe Smith Jr.
The trip could now be a scouting mission for the 30-year-old after promoter Bob Arum told Daily mail that the WBO mandatory challenger will play against the winner:
“Yarde will be next if Artur wins this big game. And his chance will come in England in a very big fight for the UK”.
Arum co-promotes Smith with Star Boxing and revealed that Yarde’s second world championship chances (losing to Sergey Kovalev in 2019) could be overseas if the New Yorkers win tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.
“I also expect Yarde to have a chance if Smith wins here but that could complicate the venue selection further. They might want to take it to the Garden. This Saturday, however, I will be working with Frank Warren to resolve the issue. “
Yarde and his promoter have taken a cautious approach since the Londoners’ impressive rematch win over Lyndon Arthur last November. This year, points have opened up on some of Frank Warren’s cards let their men back but they chose not to, avoiding any chance of putting the world championship title in jeopardy.
