Wrestling LIVE Commonwealth Games: India vs Pakistan in the 74 kg final – Naveen vs Tahir; Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Kumar hunt for gold

India’s wrestling campaign is heading to an interesting end. Here are the medal games that will take place today:

  Men’s 97 kg freestyle Bronze medal Match – Deepak Nehra vs Tayab Raza (Pakistan)

Vinesh Phogat could also claim her third CWG gold medal if she can beat Sri Lanka’s Chamodaya Don in the final match of the Nordic round in the women’s 53 kg freestyle.

India’s performance in wrestling at Gold Coast 2018 matches

As everything, India has three gold, one silver and two bronze medals from the wrestling carpet. With three more gold medals within reach today, India could surpass its total gold medal tally from 2018. But they won’t be able to surpass the total they’ve won in Australia by just as much. six medals to win now.

Women’s 50 kg freestyle – Pooja Gehlot Vs Madison Parks (CANADA) – Madison Parks won.

Pooja Gehlot in red. She attacked immediately but Madison Parks defended cleanly to stay safe. Pooja is desperate for a breakthrough in this semi-final. Another attack and the Canadian defends with split legs. Finally Parks’ defense was broken and Pooja dashed through. Won four points for her efforts. The Indian wrestler’s intentions were clear in this bout, but Madison Parks dragged this semi-final to the second half.

Pooja took two points shortly after the break but Madison took two back for her own. The match was still alive when the Canadian showed off his offensive ability and won two more points – the current score is 6-4. Only 60 seconds left. It’s Pooja’s turn to defend. Madison pushed Pooja off the rug. Make it 6-5. With just two seconds to go, Madison knocked the opponent down to win an amazing comeback. 9-6 is the score. Heartbroken for Pooja.

Men’s 57 kg freestyle semi-final – Ravi Kumar Dahiya vs Vs Ali Asad (Pakistan) – Ravi Kumar won.

The 24-year-old will be looking to claim his first CWG medal. He will have to face Pakistan’s Ali Asad for that. Ali almost broke through Ravi’s resistance. But India counter-attacked and took two points there. Another attack from Ravi and this time double the score. The score is now 6-0.

Ali finally held off Ravi Kumar and won two points. Ravi bounced back and pushed the score to 10-2. He would have loved to get it done right in the first half. He strangled Asad but the Pakistani athlete somehow saved himself from the lock and succeeded in pushing the match into the second half. Score 12-4.

Ravi Kumar ends Ali Asad’s resistance. One finalist for India and another Wrestling medal guaranteed.

Men’s 74 kg freestyle semi-final- Naveen vs. Charlie Bowling (England) – Naveen wins

Naveen got the first point by pushing Bowling off the mat. Bowling has the crowd behind him, but Naveen is least bothered about that. He knocks out the Englishman for three more points. Two other points. Cruel to Naveen, he punishes Charlie with some slick moves. 9-0 when we finished the first half. Charlie Bowling challenged to keep himself in the game and he picked up his first point.

Naveen won one more point, but Charlie survived and the match moved into the second half. But his resistance only lasted a few seconds as Naveen finished the job with an easy pin. He made it to the final.

Women’s 76 Kg semi-final – Pooja Sihag vs Justina di Stasio (Canada) – di Stasio won.

di Stasio started the match on a positive note. She gets a point to start with. Passive warning has been issued for Pooja Sihag. Even so, di Stasio still attacked and won three more points. That’s Canada’s advantage at the moment. The first half ended and Pooja was left with a four-point shortfall to make up for.

di Stasio pushes his opponent off the mat one more point. Pooja tried to sneak in for a grab, but the Canadian was sharp on defense and quickly took another point. This game looks beyond the reach of Indian wrestlers. Less than a minute left and Pooja failed to make a good attack. di Stasio clearly saw the game and it was another Canadian victory over its Indian rival.

Men’s 97kg Freestyle Quarterfinals- Deepak Nehra vs Nishan Randhawa (CANADA) – Nishan Randhawa won

Intense battle between Deepak and Nishan. The score is now 4-4. Under two minutes and the Canadians on the attack. He gets two points and has a chance to close the deal.

Score 6-4 with more than a minute left in the game. Deepak needs to come back. Nishan took a defensive stance. But Nehra passed and won the score 6 in all. With only two seconds left, Nishan sneaks into a single spike and looks to have won it. Yes, he has. It’s spooky. Nishan Randhawa won and entered the semi-finals.

Men’s 57 kg freestyle quarterfinals – Ravi Kumar Dahiya vs Vs Suraj Singh (NZL) – Ravi Kumar won

Suraj Singh defended early. But Ravi broke through and ran over his opponent. Continue spinning until the referee sets and ends the round. Ravi Kumar won and advanced to the semi-finals.

Men’s Freestyle Quarterfinals- Naveen Vs Hong Leow Yew of Singapore Naveen wins

Naveen needed just one minute to finish his quarter-final. It’s too easy for the Indians there. He strode into the semi-finals. One win in the final.

Women’s 76 Kg Freestyle Quarterfinals – Pooja Sihag vs Michelle Montague (NZL) – Pooja Sihag wins

Pooja Shihag started her CWG journey right from the quarterfinals. Finished in two minutes and both wrestlers have yet to make a definite move. In the end, Montague is punished for inactivity and Pooja gets the first point. 1-0 at the end of the first half of what happened.

The second half started and Michelle Montague went on the offensive. Pooja Shihag is currently under pressure for inactivity and Michelle takes the first point. Pooja finally has a competent move. Get four points as a reward. 5-1 Under a minute on the clock.

When there are 20 seconds left, Michelle will resume charging. Push Pooja to the mat and get two points. She did her best to overcome the deficit, but Pooja held on and secured an impressive strategic victory. Pooja Sihag made it to the Semi-Finals.

Women’s Nordic 53 kg freestyle – Vinesh Phogat vs Mercy Bolafunoluwa (NIGERIA) – Vinesh Phogat wins

A close victory would confirm Phogat a gold medal. She started strong. Robbed two points early. Two more points in her cat as she dominates Nigerians. Phogat didn’t give her opponent a chance to score as she finished the first half 4-0.

Bolafenoluwa finally started to attack. But she lost her defensive position and gave Vinesh a chance to end the contest by pinning her down on the mat. Vinesh was in complete control as she kept her opponent and it came to a standstill and Phogat didn’t mind being in the position. She has this game in her hand and the game is over. Vinesh Phogat wins!! Not the prettiest win, but she’ll take it.

Pooja Gehlot qualified for the semi-finals after her Cameroonian opponent dropped out.

Men’s Freestyle 1/8 Finals- Naveen Vs Ogbonna Immanuel John (NIGERIA) – Naveen wins

Naveen advanced to the Quarterfinals with ease with a score of 13-3. Victory through technical superiority for the Indians. He will now face Singapore’s Hong Leow Yew in the quarterfinals.

Women’s freestyle 53 kg Nordic Match 2 – Vinesh Phogat vs Samantha Stewart (CANADA) – Vinesh wins by fall

Vinesh Poghat didn’t take too long to stamp that. All 36 seconds before she pinned her Canadian opponent to the carpet. Mercy Bolafenoluwa (NIGERIA) will be her next opponent.

Women’s 50 kg freestyle group A- Pooja Gehlot vs Christelle Lemofack Letchidjio (SCOTLAND) – Pooja wins

Pooja Gehlot overcame his opponent with ease. The score was 12-2 in her favor and she was judged as the winner thanks to her superior technique.

After a beautiful collection of six medals – three gold, one silver and two bronze, the Indian wrestling team will resume their campaign on Saturday.

India will look to take better control from the Gold Coast in 2018, where they have won 12 medals including 5 gold.

Today, India will pin its hopes on Vinesh Phogat, a two-time CWG gold medalist, and Ravi Kumar Dahiya, a silver medalist from Tokyo.
