In May, a video of former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, threatening to ‘break his jaw’ went viral.
Joshua himself has remained fairly quiet about this change.
In a recent interview with JD SportsJoshua was asked how he deals with the ‘hate’ that inevitably comes with his level of popularity:
“Online is very different from real life. I come across this company, I show everyone a lot of love – everyone put a picture [of me] on their apartment and it was amazing.
“Love is amazing and I’ve always believed we tend to focus too much on hate – but I have so many people who love and admire me and I’m inspired by what I do. “
When asked specifically about that viral clip, ‘AJ’ replied:
“Given that situation with uni students, they’re really cricketers, they’re not uni students they’re really like 25 they don’t look like 15.
“They live next door. I just couldn’t sleep one night and one of our guys said that if you ever fall asleep there are a few things you can do; Go for a walk and get some fresh air, or take a hot shower.
“I went for a walk, the men I showed affection to were also there, there were about five of them in the room and they started abusing me. So I’m looking, like it’s four o’clock in the morning, so I’m like no one else is here so it must be [aimed at] I.
“That’s just what I did, I told everyone – listen I’m here to work, I’m not here to play games, I’ve shown you guys the ultimate respect since I was born. here and if you want to start this word trading path and trade anything, it’s fine with me.
“So I’ll ask you- how would you like it if I broke your jaw?”
To justify the former two-time champion went on to say:
“I don’t want to say that but I really feel bad for any other students that those people feel that they can do the same and that don’t have the courage to tell them and tell them. ‘Listen that’s wrong something. you are observing yourself. ‘”
The conflict took place at Loughborough College, where Joshua had set up his camp in preparation for rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on August 20. Now entering the final weeks before the game, the England international has decided to move coaching to Saudi Arabia to fully adapt ahead of the biggest match of his career to date.
