Wootton Bassett Tops Coolmore Stud’s Powerful 2022 Team

Coolmore has launched the 2022 charges for its star-studded roster in Eire, with Wootton Bassett  and Camelot  two of the leading sires receiving fee increases, to €150,000 and €75,000, respectively.

Topping the 22-strong roster is recent acquisition and burgeoning sire sensation Wootton Bassett, who from his first small crop of foals at Haras d’Etreham has produced European champion Almanzor , Darley Prix Jean Romanet (G1) and Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T) winner Audarya , and Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines (G1) winner Wooded .

His star performers this year include Saxon Warrior Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (G1) winner Incarville , last month’s Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac Criterium des Pouliches (G1) winner Zellie , and Juddmonte Royal Lodge (G2) and Tattersalls Acomb (G3) stakes victor Royal Patronage . The group 1-winning son of Iffraaj  stood the 2021 breeding season for a fee of €100,000, having been €40,000 in 2020.

No Nay Never  is the second six-figure lot on the roster, having been responsible for Coronation (G1) and Qatar Sussex (G1) stakes winner Alcohol Free , along with Sky Bet Lowther (G2) and Princess Margaret Keeneland (G3) stakes winner Zain Claudette , and Markel Molecomb Stakes (G3) scorer and Juddmonte Middle Park (G1) third Armor  this term. He will stand for an unchanged €125,000.

Camelot has had his payment bumped as much as a career-high of €75,000, from €60,000 this yr. In 2020 he had stood for €40,000. Camelot is already the sire of 9 particular person top-flight winners, together with Sir Dragonet , Santa Barbara , and Russian Camelot, and the unbeaten Luxembourg  followed in his sire’s footsteps when smoothly landing the Vertem Futurity Trophy (G1) at Doncaster last month.

The fee for the newest recruit to the team, St Mark’s Basilica , had already been announced at €65,000, while Australia  and Starspangledbanner  will each stand at €35,000, a rise from their 2021 fees of €25,000 and €22,500, respectively.

Australia, a son of late perennial champion sire Galileo and the brilliant Ouija Board, has sired two new group 1 winners this year in Mare Australis  (Prix Ganay, G1) and Broome  (Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, G1), while Starspangledbanner has had Saratoga Derby Invitational (G1T) and Ladbrokes Cox Plate (G1) winner State of Rest  leading his runners, which also include GAIN Marble Hill Stakes (G3) scorer and Middle Park runner-up Castle Star  and group 3 Naas winner Hermana Estrella

Promising first-season sire Churchill , who has three listed stakes winners among six black-type horses from his first crop, has had his fee trimmed to €25,000 from €30,000, while Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) and QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club winner Sottsass , who stood his first season at Fethard, Ireland, this year, has undergone the same cut.

The first crop of yearlings of Saxon Warrior , a classic-winning son of the great Deep Impact and out of the group 1-winning Galileo mare Maybe, have been well received and he will continue to stand for €20,000.

No Nay Never’s Darley July Cup (G1) and Middle Park Stakes-winning son Ten Sovereigns  will be €17,500 in 2022, down from €20,000, while Magna Grecia , winner of the QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas (G1) and Vertem Futurity Trophy and an Invincible Spirit  half brother to St Mark’s Basilica, has also had a small deduction in his fee to €17,500, in his case from €18,000.

Gleneagles , a regally bred dual Guineas-winning son of Galileo who had his breakthrough top-level winner when Loving Dream  struck in the Qater Prix de Royallieu (G1) at ParisLongchamp, has also been cut, to €15,000 from €25,000.

Circus Maximus , a multiple group 1-winning miler, will stand for €12,500, down from his debut €20,000, as will Footstepsinthesand , whose Marianafoot  landed the LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1), War Front  ‘s top-class son U S Navy Flag  (both unchanged), and Coventry Stakes (G2) winner Calyx  (down from €16,000).

Holy Roman Emperor  and the popular Highland Reel , who was supplied with a first group winner courtesy of Premio Dormello (G2) scorer Atamisque , and Sioux Nation  will all stand for €10,000, the first-named having stood for €12,500 this year.

The roster is completed by Coventry Stakes winner Arizona , the venerable Rock of Gibraltar , and Gustav Klimt , who will stand for €6,000, €5,000, and €4,000, respectively.
