Here’s what we had to say about the Q8 when we first drove it:
“There is an overall sense of sci-fi combined with modern technology inside the Q8. Large patches of shiny black plastic adorn the Q8’s interior. They look like the modern interpretation of the panels used in the TV series “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Two stacked LCD touchscreens make up the center of the dashboard. These displays offer haptic feedback – meaning they create a physical click sensation to confirm virtual button presses – making them feel a bit more like traditional buttons and dials. The Audi Q8 interior represents the future of the sci-fi past coming back to life, and fortunately, it all works pretty well in the real world.
“The LCD screen below is placed in a position within reach of the driver, assuming his hand is on the top of the gear lever. From this bottom panel, the car’s climate functions are accessed – in the case of the Q8, there are four individual climate zones, one for the driver, one for the passenger and two for the rear seat area. – but it’s also a handwriting-recognizable panel for navigation input. A 10.1-inch upper panel is the main display of the Q8’s MMI experience. Maps, audio and other infotainment features are displayed on this dashboard, which is also touch-sensitive.
“A unique feature that makes MMI much more user-friendly than some competing systems is that shortcut icons can be added to a row on the bottom LCD. These shortcuts can include anything from a GPS destination to a friend or family member’s phone number. We found the system to be mostly intuitive to use, as we discovered that a stiff press was required to make selections and get any useful haptic feedback.

“Looking through all the shiny LCD screens, the rest of the Q8’s interior is clean, with simple lines and premium materials. A strip of chrome runs the length of the dash, and while it appears to be punctuated by HVAC vents, it stays smartly upright no matter where the vent is pointed. Overall, the Q8’s interior has a bit of a serious concept feel to it, and it’s much nicer inside than competitors from BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Land Rover. If you love high-tech furniture, the Q8 offers them in batches.
“The heated, cooled and massaged front seats in our test car are lovely spots to watch the stunning desert landscape fly by. The rear seats have enough room for two passengers of above average height to feel comfortable and comfortable. Due to the five-seat, two-row configuration, Audi has managed to allow quite a bit of forward/rear motion for the second row. Legroom is more than adequate, and because the roof doesn’t slope down too radically, our six-foot, two-inch test driver also had no trouble with headroom. “
