Iga Swiatek was knocked out of Wimbledon in consecutive sets on Saturday by France veteran Alize Cornet, ending the world number’s 37-match winning streak. Cornet, ranked 37th, capitalized on a foul performance from his Polish opponent to win 6-4, 6-2 over Court 1 in their third game. The top seed played favorably early in the game, crashing in her first two friendlies and failing to return to level conditions. The 20-year-old broke his first chance in the second set but Cornet broke immediately, repeating the feat twice more as Swiatek’s match fell apart.
Swiatek made a total of 33 unforced errors in an uncharacteristically sloppy display.
She has not lost a match since her defeat to Jelena Ostapenko in February in Dubai, winning her past six tournaments, including the French Open.
Cornet is competing for her 62nd consecutive Slam, matching Ai Sugiyama’s record.

To reach the fourth round, the Frenchman faced her at Wimbledon in 2014, when she defeated Serena Williams in the third round.
“It reminds me of the time I beat Serena Williams on the same court eight years ago,” she said.
