Frank Sumpter Sunland Park Derby (G3) Winner Wild On Ice was among dozens of 3-year-olds who qualified to compete for the Triple Crown in 2023 with a late payment of $6,000 due on March 27.
Wild On Ice, a 35-1 loser in the race, now earns 50 Kentucky Derby (G1) qualifying points for his recent win. His ties have stated that they could target the $3 million Kentucky Derby on May 6.

In total, 381 3-year-olds are now eligible to compete in the Triple Crown series, which includes the Kentucky Derby, $1.5 million Preakness Stakes (G1) on May 20 and $1.5 million la Belmont Stakes (G1) on June 10.
Any horse not nominated in the early or late stages may qualify for a Triple Crown through an additional nomination payment due at the time of participation in each Triple Crown: Kentucky Derby ( $200,000), Preakness ($150,000) and Belmont ($50,000).
