I’m curious about your business plan specifically around the fact that, in the early days, people say, “Well, you have to be in New York.” “Well, you have to be in LA.” You say, “No, I’ll do it my way, and I’ll focus it in a different way, and I’ll think about things in a different way.” What made you implement that strategy?

Being in Austin is part of my brand DNA. Style, aesthetics, music, culture, which a lot of people 20 years ago didn’t know Austin. Now people are like, “That’s the buzz,” right?

It really has this great vibe, and that was part of the design process for me. I will be influenced by all the wonderful things happening in my city. Editors and others will say, “Well, you wouldn’t be in the legitimate fashion business if you weren’t on one of the coasts.” I just said, “No.”

Then they will see my collection. They’ll say, “This is so cool and refreshing, and I love the colors, and I love how you use all these new shapes and cuts and different things. “

You walk into the Kendra Scott booth, and we’re doing our own thing. So stick with that and be proud of where I come from. I won’t let that stop me.
