After a few of the quiet years, 2022 is set to be the time of majestic publishing video games. Pokemon Legend: Arceus just released; Elden Ring Will be here in a few weeks. Because of Covid-19 delay, a lot of games have been pushed back to 2021, but now the drought will bring floods — a tide that includes one of the most anticipated games of the still fledgling decade this: Forbidden Horizon in the West.
It’s hard to overstate the expectations for this game. Criticize love its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, when Guerrilla Games dropped it in 2017 and it remains a fan favorite. Gamers, myself included, can’t wait to see Aloy again, to revisit familiar languages and experience entirely new ones, while discovering more of the compelling story behind it. Horizon world. But until it comes out, everyone needs something to occupy their idle thumbs. My suggestion? Strange.
This has a few causes. For starters, stepping out of one’s comfort zone is always good. Second, you have to play anything else. In the end, even if it sucks – all is better. Turning it off will be easy once Forbidden Horizon in the West access your dashboard.
One of the big problems faced by fans of action adventure titles is that these games require dozens of hours to complete. Start a new one right before Forbidden Horizon in the West means having to choose between the two when the latter appears. It also means that the former can be left behind, incomplete, in the process. It’s all too easy to forget where you are in the story, or to put it bluntly, to forget the control scheme, and it’s hard to come back to it. The same thing can happen with DLC. Bottom line: No one wants to spend 20 hours playing a game when Horizon Just sitting there, waiting to be played.
That’s what makes this mid-way through the perfect opportunity to try something out completely distinctive. In my case it was Jurassic World: Evolution 2.
Unlike a lot of sims, maybe take over your life with their time-consuming playstyle, Evolution 2 there are quick campaigns in which the player cleans up the mess caused by the events in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. There’s also a Chaos Theory mode that lets you review scenarios from previous movies and correct errors. (Hint: When you are playing Jurassic Park Don’t be like John Hammond. The barrier is twice your raptors.) Nearly everything is short, sweet, and easy to overlook when the next 30-hour adventure rolls around. Plus, there are dinosaurs. Who doesn’t want that? They are dinosaur.
Regardless of the type of game you like to play and are you excited about Forbidden Horizon in the West or not, this strategy works. Selecting a game that is out of your inventory ensures that the endless list of games you bought “just because” actually got played. (There’s nothing more satisfying than getting rid of that backlog, am I right?) But it also relieves you of the guilt of putting that game down to play your new release. I can’t wait to play Forbidden Horizon in the West, but until it arrives, may I suggest you build a few dinosaur habitats and let your captives eat some of the park guests? You will regret a lot less than John Hammond. Promise.
