What do our bettors have in mind for us in the era of fossil fuel suppression – Is it up to that?
As you surely know, in January 2021, newly inaugurated President Biden ordered the entire federal administration to go into full war mode during the crusade to prevent the production and use of natural gas. fossil fuels, also known as “carbon emissions” (or possibly “climate pollution”). Biden’s January 27, 2021 Executive order (“Addressing the Climate Crisis at home and abroad”):
It is my Administration’s policy to organize and deploy the full capacity of its agencies to combat the climate crisis to take a whole Government approach to reducing climate pollution in all sectors. of the economy. . . .
And so we have every federal agency, at the behest of its boss, whether its statutory mandate has anything to do with “climate” or not, diligently crafting plans to overcome other bodies in the fossil fuel suppression game. Not only is the EPA planning to force the closure of all-well power plants, but also the Interior to impose a “ban” on oil and gas leasing on federal and offshore lands; and FERC introduced new standards for review to not allow any new gas pipelines to be approved; and the Department of Energy imposing costly new efficiency standards for mobile homes; and even the Federal Reserve promises to make it difficult for banks to lend to fossil fuel producers; and the SEC imposes new and costly “environmental” disclosure requirements on issuers; and continue.
And now, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, add a goal for both the US and Europe to rapidly reduce purchases of oil and gas from Russia. Surely then the whole government’s war on fossil fuels must at least be halted or slowed down for a while.
If you think so, you’re not thinking like a true climate warrior. On March 14, with the recent spike in energy prices reaching crisis levels, Biden a speech before a DNC fundraiser in Washington where he doubled down on his fossil fuel containment promises. In fact, it’s even worse than that. Biden, in his usual eloquence, promised to end his “dependence on fossil fuels” by actively building so-called “renewables”. From the official White House transcript of the event:
Imagine where we would be now if, in fact, Europe was really without fossil fuel energy and – we are in a situation where – (cough cough) – sorry – where – where we are all renewable. That would be another world. And – and therefore, we must get rid of our dependence on fossil fuels. . . . I mean, literally, not figuratively – meaning both here [U.S.] to that place [Europe]. And Europe’s dependence on fossil fuels – beyond any dependence we have. And so this is not an instant solution to the crisis, it is all about the future if we change our dependence on fossil fuels.
So Biden, who seems completely unaware that intermittent renewables cannot replace fossil fuels without large amounts of batteries or other storage, cannot afford it at all and even does not exist as a matter of technology – continue the government-wide campaign to crack down on fossil fuels at full tilt.
If wind and solar do not work without fossil fuel backup, and we will have a fossil fuel shortfall intentionally imposed by government orders, what will be the outcome? We’ve come to where a government command economy has always taken the lead: obviously, you have to rein in your laid-back lifestyle, farmers. Yesterday, the United Nations International Energy Agency announced “The 10-Point Plan to Cut Oil Use. “ The key message is that only by reducing your excess consumption can we “pave the way” to put oil use on a “more sustainable path”:
Faced with the emerging global energy crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the IEA’s 10-point Oil Use Cut Plan proposes 10 actions that can be taken to reduce oil demand with immediate impact. – and make recommendations on how those actions might help. paving the way to put oil demand on a more sustainable path over the long term.
The geniuses of the United Nations think they have come up with almost easy ways that could reduce oil consumption by about 2.7 million barrels per day. (Are from oil consumption is currently running around 97 million bpd worldwide, this will reduce less than 3%.). So what exactly do they think? It’s a collection of great ideas from good socialists. Here is a sample:
- Reduce the speed limit on highways by at least 10 km/h. Your time is worthless in the coming utopia.
- Work from home up to three days a week if possible. Note that this will be by order of the government, not by your choice.
- There are no cars in the cities on Sundays. Do you think you will take your kids to the zoo on Sunday? Think.
- Make public transport cheaper and encourage micro-mobility, walking and cycling. It’s your bike in January from now on. Remember, it’s to save the planet!
- Replace personal cars on the roads in big cities. This is one of my favorites. “Alternative entrance” means that road use by private cars will be restricted “For those with even number plates on some days of the week and for those with odd number plates on other days of the week.” Do you have a deadline that needs to be met by the 15th? Too bad you can’t use your car that day.
It goes on and on from there. All items on the list seriously reduce your freedoms and to save 3% oil used. Oh, and by the way, these cuts come only from oil use of 47 million barrels per day (out of a total of 97 million barrels) occurring in “advanced economies.” After all, we wouldn’t want people like China to contribute to the sacrifice.
And if you want someone that goes further than the United Nations in the category of no condescending attitude toward ordinary people, try Bloomberg. Ended at Bloomberg CityLab on March 15, They have a big message calling on the federal government at a time of current energy shortages to fully promote e-bikes:
Every time electric bicycles or e-bikes are used instead of cars, society receives a series of benefits. Greenhouse gas emissions are significantly lower, even when the vehicle is being replaced with electricity. Two-wheelers consume little street space and pose a negligible safety risk to other road users. And even with the engine providing some muscle, cyclists will get a surprisingly effective workout.
You’ll recognize Mike Bloomberg as one of the true world champions of private jet travel. Are from Daily Callers, February 5, 2021:
Bloomberg. . . took nearly 1,700 private jet trips over a 4-year period from August 2016 to August 2020, an analysis by Business Insider declare. Those 1700 trips are responsible for emitting at least 10,000 tons of CO2, Business Insider reported. To consider that level of emissions, a standard car emits about 4.6 tons of CO2 per year. . . .
But think, you can reduce your car’s CO2 emissions by 4.6 tons to maybe 2 tons by switching to e-bikes under government enforcement.
