Game

What are we all going to play this weekend?

I’m writing this on my last day at work before I go into my Christmas break. I’m going to take this opportunity to say something that I’ve always wanted, but never had the chance to. I hate you, reader.

Just kidding! I mean, statistically speaking I probably won’t like all of you, but I really appreciate you taking the time to read this and check out what games we’ll be playing over the weekend. this. In fact, we’ll probably play loads of games during our breaks, but we’ll tell you about those later. Until I see you again, have a lovely time celebrating the end of the year, however you do it.

Alice Bee
I got the hang of an early access god simulation called WorldBox – God Simulator. You can do a lot of weird things in it: lure aliens; drop nuclear bombs; Infect a single person and watch the zombie apocalypse unfold. But what I like best is just dropping some elves or orcs or dwarves or humans somewhere and then letting it run as a screensaver, to see what the AI does for itself. It models civilizations and kingdoms across different cultural regions. It’s a fascinating thing.

Alice0 is away.

Final Fantasy XIV or Final Fantasy XV, probably. There can’t be enough fantasies right now and I can’t remember what I’m doing in them either. Maybe even go back Valuable substance, as I’ve been craving some tactical FPS action lately.

Let’s come
With a new dog in the family, I needed some light play that I could engage in between puppy playtimes. Something like Timberborn or Jurassic World Evolution 2 should fit the bill. Then again, I want to try GTFO for a while and the recent 1.0 release seemed like a perfect excuse to give it a try. I’ll try a few runs while the puppy sleeps, but I’ll need to keep the shrill screams and panic screams to a minimum. [Hayden does indeed now have a ludicrously small puppy; he has shown us pictures and said puppy is smaller than I believe science would accept as possible. – ed]

This weekend, I’m going to dress up as an Orc to play D&D. It’s the end of a campaign I’ve been playing with friends for two years now, so we’re being giant storks and showing up in costumes. When I have some spare time, I’ll probably jump into some Encode to try adding new mini expansion feature. Really hard! But excellent.

Now that it’s on Game Pass, I’ve been talked to about playing Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which, to be fair, has so far been pleasantly proven to be terrible. I’m playing a doctor whose preventive medicine idea is to just upgrade people’s guns.

Katharine
I will try and finish Unsighted, but I also want to go back Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to play the new Eivor/Kassandra cross missions. I played Valhalla one, and it was really everything I expected in terms of how those two characters would interact with each other. It’s glorious stuff, so I hope Odyssey is just as good.

Well, I’m off until January, so instead of talking about all the games I plan to play over Christmas, I’ll instead mention the one that excites me the most, It’s a game. party made by my brother, and we plan to try it out with our family this weekend. Basically, we all have to take a screenshot of a frame from a movie we all know, so that some but not all other players can guess the movie. We’re going to borrow the scoring system from Dixit, which is where we got the whole “some but not all” idea in the first place. I think it can be a really good fun.

Everything is fine, this weekend I will see my loved ones again in a responsible meeting over Christmas. So while it may be a shock once, playing video games will have to fit into my real life plans rather than vice versa. That being said, I was especially frugal Hercule Poirot: The First Cases until I can play it with my dad, so you could argue that counts as a festive family activity.

What games are you ready to play in the next few weeks? Is there one that you always play around this time of year out of nostalgia? Are you hoping to receive something new as a gift?
