Prepper Ben Green thinks the coming climate apocalypse will end the Capitalist system – but if you pay him €3,500 you’ll have an unsecured spot in his survival complex.

At his remote forest home, Ben Green is trying to stay optimistic about the collapse of the food supply.
Ben Green doesn’t have to worry that Vladimir Putin might cut off Europe’s gas this winter, worry about a seasonal resurgence of Covid-19 or panic about a looming global food crisis.

The risk of soil contamination may be the reason why land is so cheap. The Soviet Union, including East Germany, did not have a good reputation for handling hazardous waste responsibly. Bill’s vegetable garden can be contaminated with lead from old batteries or spilled ammunition, or from lead from old-fashioned leaded fuel.
The survival complex building can be contaminated by Thalium, widely used by the Soviets as an inexpensive rat and insect repellent, much later abandoned by the West due to its cumulative toxicity to humans. Of course, even worse pollution is possible. I once drove past what looked like an overgrown farm field in England, where there were some signs of rusty radiation hanging from the fence. When I asked the locals what was in the fields, they told me it was where the British Government buried a lot of old World War 2 Radium guns and the radioactive glow by night gear and clock faces.
Radium has a half-life of 1600 years, and is very dangerous to humans, as the body mistakes it for Calcium – once absorbed Radium is permanently incorporated into human bones, where it is slowly burned the internal organs of the unfortunate victim. I sure hope someone replaces those radiation warning signs, before they completely rust, and people forget what’s buried in that field.
The radiation field is close to average in size but rapidly expanding the town in District House. Apart from the old rusty radiation signs, there are no signs of problems. This field looks like any other field, except it looks overgrown and out of place.
I guess East Germany isn’t the only country where the government makes questionable choices, regarding the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
Even if Ben’s vegetable field isn’t contaminated with radiation or deadly toxins, starting an outdoor vegetable garden is a dubious preparation for a climate apocalypse. Other types of apocalypse, sure, but can’t climate change sabotage crop yields by creating more extreme weather events? If you believe that, of course.
I wish Ben good luck. He seems to be a fairly innocuous person, and despite his hilarious anti-capitalist insurance business, he seems to be trying to live up to his beliefs – unlike urban extremists. Fake green towns live in the middle of big cities, take advantage of all the comforts of modern life, then block the road and cause misery for motorists.
