We Should Consider Preparing to Survive the Climate Apocalypse – Are You OK?

Essay by Eric Worrall

Prepper Ben Green thinks the coming climate apocalypse will end the Capitalist system – but if you pay him €3,500 you’ll have an unsecured spot in his survival complex.

‘Change is coming’: Meet Britons preparing for climate apocalypse in an old German barracks

At his remote forest home, Ben Green is trying to stay optimistic about the collapse of the food supply.

Ben Green doesn’t have to worry that Vladimir Putin might cut off Europe’s gas this winter, worry about a seasonal resurgence of Covid-19 or panic about a looming global food crisis.

Green weaned himself when he purchased the five-hectare (12-acre) site of a derelict East German army barracks 3 years ago: the previous owner, who used it as an open-air museum for the classic tank, has drained building construction. and air ducts. Green has been patched on the roof of the county and insulated the windows so the temperature inside doesn’t drop below 5 degrees Celsius at night. He showered by pouring a bucket of cold water over his head and heating it on a wood stove.

A 49-year-old Englishman with a silver ginger beard and the word “Vegan!” tattooed on his left arm, Green is unaffected by supply chainbecause he lives almost entirely on vegetables and fruits he grows on his land. As Green hopes, if friends give him an oil press for his 50th birthday, he will soon be free from the occasional four-mile journey to the nearest village to get cooking oil.

On those trips, he stocked up on tea, coffee, and chocolates, but they were luxuries he could take with him in the event of a supply chain breakdown. The fact that his weaning is still measurable is due to the bottomless appetites of Fat Tony, Brunhilde Demagogue and Marilyn Monroe, his three Mangalica pigs.

What we are looking at is not the end of humanity but the end of capitalism“, he said, describing climate decay as the common denominator behind the various political, food, energy and health crises that have begun to converge in recent years. happens, and this is the year that people will notice.”

Anyone who really wants to join the Green in the event of a climate famine can pay €3,500 (£2,950) to be put on a waiting list, although he gives no guarantee that will automatically guarantee a position. One person made the payment.

There’s nothing wrong with growing your own vegetables – my backyard vegetable garden helped keep my family going during the short and strong economic downturn that followed 9/11. An extra €3,500 at the end of the insurance policy Capitalism is a good contact.

I wish my current house had a vegetable garden like Ben’s, although I certainly hope he tested the soil.

The risk of soil contamination may be the reason why land is so cheap. The Soviet Union, including East Germany, did not have a good reputation for handling hazardous waste responsibly. Bill’s vegetable garden can be contaminated with lead from old batteries or spilled ammunition, or from lead from old-fashioned leaded fuel.

The survival complex building can be contaminated by Thalium, widely used by the Soviets as an inexpensive rat and insect repellent, much later abandoned by the West due to its cumulative toxicity to humans. In the year 2004 Some Russian soldiers made a credible attempt at the Darwin Prize when they found some white powdered Thallium rat poison in a tin dumped on an old military dump and tried to smoke it..

Ben, if you’re experiencing any weird aches or pains or digestive upset, or persistent tingling in your fingers and toes, and especially if you’ve been losing some hair recently, see your doctor right away.

Of course, even worse pollution is possible. I once drove past what looked like an overgrown farm field in England, where there were some signs of rusty radiation hanging from the fence. When I asked the locals what was in the fields, they told me it was where the British Government buried a lot of old World War 2 Radium guns and the radioactive glow by night gear and clock faces.

Radium has a half-life of 1600 years, and is very dangerous to humans, as the body mistakes it for Calcium – once absorbed Radium is permanently incorporated into human bones, where it is slowly burned the internal organs of the unfortunate victim. I sure hope someone replaces those radiation warning signs, before they completely rust, and people forget what’s buried in that field.

The radiation field is close to average in size but rapidly expanding the town in District House. Apart from the old rusty radiation signs, there are no signs of problems. This field looks like any other field, except it looks overgrown and out of place.

I guess East Germany isn’t the only country where the government makes questionable choices, regarding the safe disposal of hazardous waste.

Even if Ben’s vegetable field isn’t contaminated with radiation or deadly toxins, starting an outdoor vegetable garden is a dubious preparation for a climate apocalypse. Other types of apocalypse, sure, but can’t climate change sabotage crop yields by creating more extreme weather events? If you believe that, of course.

I wish Ben good luck. He seems to be a fairly innocuous person, and despite his hilarious anti-capitalist insurance business, he seems to be trying to live up to his beliefs – unlike urban extremists. Fake green towns live in the middle of big cities, take advantage of all the comforts of modern life, then block the road and cause misery for motorists.
