‘We don’t want to go to Zumba – we’re nuts’
An all-girls punk galley band with members with an average age of 55 is trying to encourage more middle-aged women to play the instrument.
Verinos, who were founded as Leicester’s extended lockdown measures have been relaxed, perform songs that address age and gender stereotypes.
The five-part ensemble was auditioned to perform at next year’s Glastonbudget music festival in response to the male-dominated lineup at other UK festivals.
“It’s often been suggested that you just dig your garden and head to Zumba or visit a National Trust property,” says musician and guitarist Ruth Miller.
“We wanted to be a punk band. We didn’t want to just watch daytime TV.”
