Waze has announced that it will be adding EV charging stations to its database. In countries that have implemented this feature, you’ll be able to add an EV as a vehicle in the Vehicles section. Once you’ve sorted that out, you’ll be able to search for relevant EV charging stations along your route.
Charger data will be updated by local Map Editors in the Waze Community. This service isn’t available in Malaysia yet, but the closest country to us where it is now is Singapore, so you can check it out if you’re driving to Singapore soon.
Currently, the recommendation to find EV chargers in Malaysia is to download PlugShare app. When you find a suitable EV charger near you, check out the description, which will hopefully tell you the cost of the charger and which apps you need to download to use the charger.
There are also Applications Better Route Plannerbut the charger data in it is from Open Fee Map and not updated by the community so may miss some available chargers.
The best way to navigate to the charger is to use your car’s built-in navigation because when the car knows it’s on its way to a charging session, the car can perform the necessary preconditions for the battery to calibrate. equipment for a more optimized (faster) charging session.
But this is not always available in Malaysia due to the possibility that the GPS data is outdated or there is no GPS navigation in the car at all. So we usually just rely on our phones, sometimes with features like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
This is one way that Apple and Google can improve the CarPlay/AA feature set in this new era of electric vehicles – there should be a way for the navigation app to pass data back to the car the user is currently navigating to. charger so that the car can perform the necessary prerequisites for the battery for the charging session.
