Watch Thieves Steal Six Hellcats Challenger in 40 Flat Seconds
The Dodge Challenger Hellcat stolen from last week shows the limitations of selling cars very quickly. We now have raw footage from the dealer that shows it’s actually an incredibly quick trick.
In case you lost it:
Raw footage of the theft of six Dodge Challenger Hellcats from a dealer in Somerset, Kentucky, last Wednesday shows a fairly professional job in and out.
The thieves escaped with six brand new Hellcats—four from the showroom floor and two from the dealer lot—in just 40 seconds. Don Franklin Chrysler Dodge Jeep Dealer Manager Adam Bryant says WKYT he believes the quick theft is an inside job:
“They entered through the back garage door. They have some idea of how our security system works,” Bryant said.
Bryant believes it takes at least seven people in 40 seconds to drive all six Hellcats, each worth about $95,000.
“And they were gone. After they turned off the alarm, it took 60 seconds before the alarm started playing. They went 20 seconds before the alarm went off. The police response time is like three minutes. It was really good,” said Bryant.
Five of the cars were recovered almost immediately, with one in a neighboring town and several as far away as different states. At least one vehicle was completely damaged and two were severely damaged. Each Hellcat retails for around $95,000.
Hellcats in particular are like catnip to car thieves. Last year, the federal government busted a line responsible for several high-profile thefts from dealers and production batches. However, these guys are not only arrested for car theft, Hellcat engine cars are also used in other crimes, as powerful cars can outrun the police, CD driver report.
