WATCH: Jordan Spieth receives unique verdict after spectators catch his hit at the Phoenix Open
What happens when a spectator at a PGA Tour event catches a wrong shot? That’s what Jordan Spieth discovered at the Phoenix Open.
On the fourth hole of his first round at TPC Scottsdale, Spieth’s shot had too much heat behind and a bit too much wind underneath. That resulted in the ball flying into the crowd and into a spectator’s lap. The fan picked the ball off his feet and quickly threw it to the ground.
That’s when things get interesting. Spieth stepped up and tried to settle the verdict. Finally, Spieth was allowed to hit the ball into the audience.
Luckily for fans, Spieth didn’t shoot it off the leg. The three-time big winner ditched where the fans were sitting instead. Spieth was able to save par from there and remains near the top of the Phoenix Open leaderboard.
Speith is looking to win the tournament for the first time after three previous top-10 finishes, while also winning her first PGA Tour win since winning the Texas Open in 2021.
