Everyone has an opinion about The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. But real great bookworms are people who have opinions about Phantom Hourglass and Spiritual songWind Waker sequel pair used everyone mechanic on the DS to great effect.

In other words, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks don’t have enough column inches, especially these days, now that the DS is a dusty, distant memory. So thank heavens for Liam Triforce who just posted a ninety minutes long Take an in-depth look at the two games and what makes them so great.

Honestly, even as big fans of the two games as we are, this video makes us feel that we should boot up the Zelda ol’ machine and give them a try. The innovation of stylus-based gameplay; self-drawn maps; precision mechanics of bomchu and boomerang; even scary repetitive dungeons – most Zelda games introduce some unique ideas, but these two top-down games are nothing but test.

Of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, and Liam Triforce also delves into the more disappointing aspects of the game – much of the tedious dungeon design in Phantom Hourglass. However, there are still great mechanics and ideas in even the most boring dungeons, so it’s hard to be put off by it.

If you are a lover of video essays and video games, you will love this combination of the two. We certainly did.
