The Walmart night crew monitoring who shot and killed six of his colleagues on Tuesday used a handgun he purchased on the morning of the attack and left a “death note,” according to details released Friday by Chesapeake, Virginia officials.
New details show Andre Bing, 31, used a 9mm pistol that he legally purchased from a local store on the same day of the shooting.
Police said they found ammunition, receipts and paperwork related to the gun purchase at Bing’s residence.
Police responded to the shooting shortly after 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, minutes after the attack was reported and just days before Thanksgiving and the start of the year-end shopping season. A 16-year-old boy was among the victims, officials said. The victims were honored during a vigil Thursday night.
Bing, who officials said had no criminal history, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Recovered notes on Bing’s mobile phone show the mass shooter’s complaints about his co-workers and provide a glimpse into his potential motive for the deadly shooting. .
In the note, which included references to God and the Holy Spirit, Bing described allegations of harassment by his colleagues. His former colleagues, according to The New York Timesdescribed him as “weird” and said that he would sometimes display an “unpleasant attitude”.
“Nothing can justify taking the lives of innocent people,” Walmart said in a statement. “We continue to focus on grieving families and support our associates through this difficult time.”
Officials added that the two victims were being treated at hospitals in the area. One remains in critical condition, while the other is recovering.
