Volkswagen is recall of 98,806 ID.4 electric vehicles A faulty door handle can cause the door to open unexpectedly.
The recall includes Models 2021-2024 The recalled vehicles may have door handles that do not effectively seal out water, but VW believes that less than 1 percent of the affected vehicles are defective.

In affected vehicles, water can seep into the door handle and reach the printed circuit board, potentially causing a “communication problem” between the handle and the door control, resulting in an incorrect door unlock command, according to recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). If this happens, drivers may notice a clicking noise similar to the noise when the door is normally unlocked.
VW knows of 135 warranty claims from June 2023 to May 2024 related to the issue, but is not aware of any crashes or injuries.
The agents will check door handle and, if necessary, replace them with improved versions free of charge. The vehicles will also receive a software update, and VW will reimburse customers for any work they may have paid for out of pocket related to the issue. This recall expands on two previous recalls. Customers who have already had work done under any of those recalls will also need to take their vehicles to a dealer for this one.
