VW gigafactory battery, Nio battery swap, Tesla still tops BYD in EVs: Car News Today


Is Tesla or BYD the leading global electric vehicle seller? Nio has achieved 1,000 battery swap stations, in a far different test. And VW is building its first major EV battery factory. This and more, here Green car report.

Volkswagen officially broke ground today first EV battery cell “gigafactory,” which it named SalzGiga, as well as a new PowerCo battery business to oversee it and other such battery factories. VW plans six such plants for Europe, with the possibility of battery plants in North America in the future.

BYD, the Chinese company that once led Tesla in global electric vehicle sales, is back to the top only if you consider all plug-in models, including plug-in hybrids. In what we call an electric car – Apple is missing, Tesla is still leading. That said, the Volkswagen remains in the passing lane.

China’s Nio on Wednesday made several announcements. It’s finished 1000 . battery swap stationand it confirmed that the 500kw DC fast charger will be rolling out to China and Europe soon. Nio will also soon begin manufacturing its own 800-volt battery packs in-house, to sell more affordable models under the mass-market brand.
