Volvo Concept Recharge is full of sustainable materials

In June, Volvo showed us beyond the concept of its futuristic vision in a wagon-like package called Concept Recharge. The Swede is now ready to show us the car’s interior and tell us what it’s made of, calling it “a manifesto for the future of Volvo Cars”. Given Volvo’s goal of selling only electric vehicles by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2040, the battery-electric Concept Recharge is one way for the automaker to achieve that and look stylish in the future. When conducting. It begins and almost ends with the use of sustainable, recyclable materials everywhere.

Outside, the front and rear bumpers and stone panels are made of linen composite. Only six percent of the materials in specially developed Pirelli tires come from fossil resources, with the remainder from recycled and renewable materials such as natural rubber, bio-silica, rayon and bioplastics. Every aspect of the bodywork has been shaped to increase aerodynamic efficiency, from the wheel design to the compact, upright rear end. Efficiency will also be an important development for the battery. Volvo hasn’t mentioned any of that in regards to the concept, but we do know that the company doesn’t just want to add more umbrellas to increase range, as that adds weight and gain to a vehicle. carbon emissions. Volvo is working with Swedish company Northvolt to produce more energy-rich battery packs with shorter charging times.

Inside, the Concept Recharge takes a big leap from the existing sustainability cabin in the C40 Recharge. The seat backrests and dashboard top are made of “clearly sourced Swedish wool” woven into a breathable, additive-free fabric. The seat rails and high-contact door areas are covered with Tencel, a highly durable yet soft cellulose fiber product. The floor and lower doors are upholstered in 100% wool. The seat backs, the front of the headrests and part of the steering wheel are covered with a material developed by Volvo called Nordico. The company keeps ingredients secret, only telling us that Nordico is made from recyclable ingredients found in sustainable forests. And the flax mixture reappears inside the storage bags, behind the headrests and footrests.

The automaker says that if the Concept Recharge’s battery is charged with renewable energy, it will contribute less than 10 tons of CO2 over the life of the wagon. America I have to go to school every day said in June of this year that the average passenger car “emissions about 4.6 tons of carbon dioxide per year.” Combine that with carbon-neutral production and Chargers – or the vehicles it heralds – could be of great benefit to the Earth.
