Volunteer dog walking to help Pit Bull spent the past 5 years in the shelter to find a dear home
Christmas has come early for a shelter dog named Ceasar and longtime shelter volunteer, Doug Sears.
The estimated 8 year old pit bull has arrived Ohio’s Animal Charity more than five years ago covered in sores. He was found chained outside with an untreated case. The rescue brought him in and gave him a daily medicinal bath.
He also tested positive for heartworm, but was treated and is now cured. Through it all, he didn’t stop wagging his tail.

But years passed and no one stepped forward to adopt the sweet boy.
Doug works across the street to rescues and for the past 5 years has spent his lunch break walking the dogs at the shelter. For the past three and a half years, he has worked with Ceasar and made it his mission to find him a loving home.
“Something about Caesar stole my heart,” Sears told WKBN. “I’m just afraid that Ceasar might live out the rest of his life here and I think if he’s going to spend the rest of his life here, he might as well enjoy the rest of his life.”

Caesar has finally found his permanent home thanks to Doug sharing pictures of himself on social media.
Doug was very happy for his friend and shared how it happened in a post. “Thanks Barb for contacting me. Through social media, Barb saw Caesar and contacted him to inquire about him. THAT is proof, in my eyes, that ‘sharing’ on social media REALLY helps. “
But Doug doesn’t consider himself a hero. “I have just had the good fortune to meet Caesar, as well as many other wonderful dogs, and take great care of him,” he wrote. “If you want to meet REAL heroes, you have to go through the second door, where it is quite noisy and sometimes smelly. THAT is where the carers (heroes) work tirelessly.”
CAESAR’S GREAT JOURNEY Today was… the last time I picked up Caesar, at the shelter, for a walk/walk. We…

Shelter shared great news on Facebook, “We love this sweet boy so much!! Thank you Barb for working so hard to give him the life he so deserves! We will miss him like crazy! We wouldn’t want him anywhere other than snuggled up on a couch and running around in his new yard! ”
Doug will continue to help shelter dogs by taking them for walks and sharing photos of them. He knows Caesar will be happy in his new home. He speak, “Will miss our walks but now the door is open for another worthy dog to enjoy the same pleasures.”
The rescue featured other perennial shelter dogs who desperately wanted to find a loving home. “We have some really great dogs – like Ceasar – that have been here for years,” Statuses Adoption Coordinator, Jane MacMurchy.
