Ramon Vazquez, 38, of Puerto Rican descent, has cemented his status as the top racer at Santa AnitaMeet the fall by winning two races early on Sunday’s 10-race program. He finished with 25 wins in 18 days standing, five wins ahead of runner-up Juan Hernandez. It was the first Santa Anita title for Vazquez, who became a regular there in March after being a mainstay at the club. Prairie grasslands and Oaklawn Park.
Miller, a 56-year-old Angelino native who lives mostly from the San Luis Rey Downs Training Center, won his fourth Fall Encounter title and his sixth overall Santa Anita coaching title.
“I am grateful to be here and the owners and coaches for supporting me,” Vazquez said. “This is huge for me because not everyone who comes to cycling at Santa Anita has achieved it (lead jockey) in such a short time. I’m so lucky and I thank you. everyone who has supported me.”
Vazquez, who is represented by agent Bill Castle, has had four equity wins, two behind Umberto Rispoli.
“We’re thrilled to win another title at Santa Anita,” Miller said. “Winning there is always a great achievement. It’s a team effort. The people in the barn did a great job, all of them were satisfactory and really special thanks to my owners for being back. to be the best, most loyal group of owners a guy could ask for.
“Going forward, we’ll have a small chain in Oaklawn, but our main focus will be on Santa Anita.”

Longtime California owner/raider, Jed Cohen, along with his sons Tim and Mark, once again lead all owners by race wins. Their Red Baron’s Barn and Rancho Temescal, LLC took five wins, four seconds and three thirds.
Longtime California breeders, the Cohens are now focused on recruiting racing prospects in Europe and throughout North America. They have horses being trained with Mark Glatt and Jeff Mullins at Santa Anita.

Their steady stars are big strides Packing a Wahlop , the 3/4 length Class III winner, $200,000 Zuma Beach Stakes on October 9, walked a mile on grass in 1:34.07. Coached by Mullins and ridden by Mike Smith, the Packs a Wahlop also won the Del Mar Juvenile Turf at one mile on September 11. He finished eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) at Keeneland November 4th and back to Santa Anita.
Bought for $270,000 this past April at the Ocala Breeders 2-year-old Training Spring Sale, Pack a Wahlop, a gray pony from Creative cause out of City Zip mare City by the Bay got three wins from five starts and made $240,000.
Proud owner of Rancho Temescal, a 6,000-acre ranch with huge natural pastures fed by creeks and waterways in Ventura County, the Cohens are also top owners with 22 wars. won at Santa Anita’s 76-day Winter/Spring Meeting, which ended June 19.
