Vasiliy Lomachenko was never interested in taking the easy route. But the former player of many divisions could not say the same to Gervonta Davis.

After confrontations at the Olympics brought two gold medals, Lomachenko immediately turned professional. While he appeared briefly in his first attempt to win the world title in just his second professional bout, Lomachenko will begin his championship reign after his second professional competition. three in the ring.

Although the Ukrainian star has continued to take on all the matches, he is in the spotlight because Gervonta Davis, his longtime rival, has done what he believes is the exact opposite. Even with a tough knockout win over both Leo Santa Cruz and Mario Barrios before a decisive win over Isaac Cruz, Lomachenko wasn’t willing to give Davis much credit. From the weight star’s point of view, Mayweather Promotions classed tenacious Davis as the type of bout that would allow him to shine instead of really testing him.

“They only fight those who they believe they can win this war with,” Lomachenko told a group of reporters. “They match their fighters with opponents they believe their boxers can win.”

With Lomachenko fully convinced that the Davis team would only place him in favorable matches, the Ukrainian did not hold his breath when their duel came to fruition.

After beating the likes of Nicholas Walters, Jorge Linares, Guillermo Rigondeaux and Luke Campbell – Lomachenko became the sport’s number one weightlifter. While Teofimo Lopez will eventually knock some of the limelight from his name, thanks to a unanimous decision victory, then stripped of Lomachenko’s lightweight titles, thanks to consecutive defeats, he has regained most of his position.

Currently, Lomachenko’s goal is to win all four world championship titles at £135. And while Davis is not currently a titleholder at lightweight, Lomachenko continued to express his desire to take on what many consider to be the biggest boxer in boxing. However, as the slick male tennis player works relentlessly on his craft, he’s pretty confident that the Davis team isn’t interested in slipping a contract on his desk.

“I always say I’m up for the fight but you know the politics of boxing. They know that I have real skills.”
