Like most, Vasiliy Lomachenko was completely stunned by the results.

The former three-division world player and pound star believes longtime rival Teofimo Lopez will be interested in the business over the weekend. However, in front of a mostly supportive Lopez crowd at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater, Australian candidate George Kambosos Jr scored what was supposed to be the failure of the year.

From the start, Kambosos Jr enjoyed unprecedented success, scoring a knock-out in the first round before narrowly claiming a decisive victory. While Lomachenko was proven wrong in his pre-fight conjecture, the Ukrainian was simply excited about Lopez’s defeat because of the unpredictable nature of boxing.

“Before the game, I gave the Kambosos some chances,” Lomachenko said in an interview with Sky Sports. “But of course I think Lopez is going to win this fight. But that’s what it is. This is the boxing life.”

Lomachenko, 33, has long hoped to continue his victories to lure Lopez back into the ring. Just over a year ago, the former Olympic gold medalist fought twice tactically with Lopez. Despite being rated as the most popular, Lomachenko still lost their contest. In the process, his reign of light-hearted unity came to an end.

Although he initially hoped to redeem himself against Lopez and reclaim his championship status, with Kambosos Jr now supreme to beat in the tournament, Lomachenko has now set his sights on the Australian.

“Of course, I want this fight. We’ll see,” Lomachenko continued when asked if it was possible to face Kambosos Jr. That is my goal in boxing now. Undisputed world champion, this is my driving force.”

Whether Lomachenko wants to get his hands on Kambosos Jr. no matter how much, right now, he has a huge task ahead of him. On December 11, at Madison Square Garden, Lomachenko will face former lightweight player Richard Commey.

With the 34-year-old boxer known as a good fighter, Lomachenko refuses to look too far ahead. However, if he wins his return to the ring, he will aim to lock his own shot into Kambosos Jr.

“First of all, I have a fight on December 11, and my focus is on this fight. After this fight, I can talk about my future.”
