BEIJING – The fifth time is a blessing for American skier Lindsey Jacobellis.

The 36-year-old won her first gold medal on Wednesday in the women’s snowboarding event at the Beijing Olympics. The award is also America’s first gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Jacobellis previously won a silver medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics, also in women’s snowboarding. She did not win medals at the Pyeongchang, Sochi and Vancouver Olympics.

Jacobellis held off competitors Chloe Trespeuch, from France, and Meryeta Odine, from Canada.
