Ukraine continues World Cup qualifiers with playoffs June 1

Ukraine will return to competitive action in their delayed World Cup playoffs with Scotland on June 1, FIFA confirmed.

The Path A semi-final was postponed to its original date in March following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, which resulted in all soccer in the country shutting down and requiring all men’s football. Ukraine over 18 years old must stay in the country.

The Ukrainian Football Federation has appealed against the postponement of the match, which has been raised by FIFA, in the hope that it can be rescheduled this summer.

FIFA and UEFA have now agreed on a June 1 date for the game in Glasgow, with the winners going to continue playing Wales in Cardiff on 5 June to secure a place in the World Cup.

The successful team will then complete Group B in Qatar with Englandthe USA and Iran.

Ukraine hasn’t played any matches since facing Bosnia and Herzegovina in their World Cup qualifying final match last November.
