UChicago launches accelerator for AI and data science companies
The University of Chicago this week announced the creation of Transform, an accelerator for early-stage tech companies focused on data science and artificial intelligence.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
The new program – which is part of the Deep Tech Ventures initiative at UChicago’s Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation – aims to provide a wide range of support for startups: access to business and technical training technology, industry mentoring, venture capital matching and funding opportunities
Transform is looking for two groups of up to 10 companies each. Candidates should focus on information technology and data science: AI and machine learning, data engineering, analytics and other innovations for biotech and healthcare applications, security network, blockchain, IoT, social impact, etc
Accepted startups will receive approximately $250,000 in total investment — including $25,000 in funding, use of UChicago computing resources, credits for Amazon and Google Web Services for startups, a workspace at the Polsky Exchange on the South Side of Chicago, and access to mentors, technical advisors, and talented students from the Department of Computer Science, the Data Science Institute of University of Chicago and the Chicago Booth School of Business.
Applications for the first Transform group will expire on January 25.

Over the past 5 years, the Department of Computer Science and Statistics has added more than 40 new faculty members at UChicago, most of whom specialize in AI, machine learning, data science, and data engineering.
