Tyrese Haliburton’s Pacers debut gives us a glimpse into the future of the franchise

The deal’s deadline for the deal between the Indiana Pacers and the Sacramento Kings sent NBA Twitter into a frenzy.

The Pacers traded the All-Star forward to Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb, Justin Holiday and second-round picks for kings to Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson.

The reason for the shock was the expectation that if the Kings moved one of their two young squire, it was more likely that De’Aaron Fox would be swapped instead of Haliburton. Fox’s name appears more often in commercial rumors and Haliburton has just pledged allegiance stayed in Sacramento, trying to turn around the franchise that is holding the NBA’s longest playoff drought in 15 years.

Given the way Twitter reacted, you’d think the Kings traded off Michael Jordan’s second appearance when Haliburton’s name was involved.

While the team’s response may have been ambitious, the reality is that Haliburton is a really, really talented youngster. He plays with the poise of a seasoned 21-year-old veteran. He’s a brilliant shooter (and don’t let that odd release fool you), he’s a great player and most of all, he has an overflowing attitude. full of energy and the demeanor of a leader.

He’s someone any franchise is lucky to have in their dressing room as a building block and foundation.

It didn’t take long for the Pacers fan base to see that, as Haliburton performed on his Indiana debut. The newly acquired tier champion gave the team clicks on all turrets in the first quarter, achieving a season-high 47 points as a team. He scored 12 points without missing a shot in the first frame, sparking a bit of his scoring arsenal with several furry players and 3 pointers.

Haliburton is playing as fast as before, sublimating with two gunslingers at Hield and outstanding rookie Chris Duarte. He’s getting things sorted in the inning, doing all the right reads as he has done so often in Sacramento whenever he gets a chance to dominate the ball.

The Pacers let their hot start go to waste as the Cavaliers finally completed a comeback win, but Haliburton’s debut was a sign of things to come in the future. Finishing with 23 points (9-15 FG, 4-6 3PT), six assists and three steals, he put up impressive numbers, but it went beyond that.

There is a new energy source on the floor and in the arena. The Haliburton acquisition gives the Pacers a franchise platform to build around in hopes of beating a mediocre streak where they’ve failed in the first round of the playoffs in five of the past six seasons. .

Haliburton’s unselfish play makes him the man other players want to play with, and his versatility as a combo guard allows him to fit perfectly into any squad. .

There are some other key pieces missing from this contest – both Malcolm Brogdon and Myles Turner are injured – but we can still clearly see what a Haliburton-Duarte back road looks like. It will be interesting to see how they handle the other players on the roster, but it seems safe to say Haliburton, Turner and Duarte are the three future pieces.

While the loss of a player of Sabonis’ caliber is painful, the return of the young star the Pacers have ignited the team’s hopes for years to come.

Haliburton is the next franchise player in Indiana.
